Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin
Forsyth Barr Stadium is the world’s only permanently covered stadium to boast a natural turf playing field incorporating a space-age transparent roof. The stadium has a maximum capacity of 33,000 but was designed as a multi purpose events centre to ca¬ter for other sports (besides Football and Rugby) and events, such as Netball/basketball, concerts and exhibitions. Attached buildings to the West and North Stands are the University of Otago and the New Zealand Academy of Sport. The project was fast track to meet the Rugby World Cup in 2011. The contract was let on a Guaranteed Maximum Price basis and work commenced on site in May 2008 with completion in time for the RWC games in September 2011. During the RWC, the stadium received massive media exposure and as a result received universal critical acclaim from media, teams, and spectators.
